One Woman’s Story: Navigating the changing tides
Maureen Murphy has had a career filled with ups and downs, Ins and outs, good times and …. well, let’s just let her say she’s had many opportunities for growth. Come laugh with her as she share my journey. After all, we are all in this together, and together we thrive.
Maureen Murphy has been in the landscaping and arboriculture fields for over 40 years. She received a dual degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo in Ornamental Horticulture and Pomology (fruit science), and then moved to Hawaii to begin a career in landscaping. She left the islands for two years to earn a Master of Science degree through the Longwood Graduate Program in Pennsylvania. That was enough. Back to Hawaii where she started Horticultural Consultants International, became a Certified Arborist, a landscape contractor, a Registered Consulting Arborist, and a qualified Tree Risk Assessor. She currently had a 4-person crew who focus on tree pruning, landscape beautification projects, and keeping each other entertained.

*All genders are welcome to our annual Women in Arboriculture Breakfast event. In order to support women in our industry, we come together to share a meal and highlight a female arborist’s career path, learn what wisdom they may have to impart, and ask them our burning questions. This year, we are featuring Maureen Murphy, founder of Horticultural Consultants International. She has been an arborist and landscaper for over 40 years – primarily in Hawaii. Included in this event will also be time to introduce each other and engage in group discussion.
This year, to encourage participation of a wider audience, we are offering a sliding scale for tickets. If you are a student, part-time employee, retiree, or otherwise would not financially be able to attend, there will be an option to buy a reduced-rate ticket. This is on the honor system, and if you can pay full-price please do. We look forward to seeing everyone!
